Massive Expansion Ongoing at Izedon Calcium Carbonates Plant in Nigeria

Construction work has commenced to expand the Izedon calcium carbonates manufacturing plant located in Lampese, Edo State, Nigeria. Less than 10 months after launch, Izedon Carbonates, trading as IzeCarb, surpassed its annual production target of 60,000 metric tonnes of calcium carbonates, achieving 72,000 metric tonnes.

What’s more, IzeCarb is now expanding its facilities to scale production not to 200,000 metric tonnes as initially projected at launch in December 2024, but to 500,000 metric tonnes by the first quarter of 2026, with an ambitious target of 1 million metric tonnes by 2027.

This phenomenal expansion was made possible by an overwhelming market acceptance, deep market insight and tech-driven innovation that uniquely positions IzeCarb to customise calcium carbonate products for different industrial groups.

What Else is New?

Tech-Driven Customisation and Quality

This phase two expansion is powered by a fivefold increase in machinery and the integration of advanced automated systems that allow IzeCarb to produce highly customised calcium carbonate grades, including coated, superfine, and ultrafine powders, for industries such as:

  • Plastics
  • Paints and coatings
  • Oil and gas drilling fluids

Sustainability and the “Quarry-to-Customer” Model

IzeCarb is also investing in compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to reduce emissions and reinforce its end-to-end logistics model. This aligns with global sustainability goals and supports Nigeria’s broader economic diversification strategy.

Boosting Local Employment and Skills

Already one of the largest employers in Lampese, IzeCarb’s expansion will create more jobs and foster skill development in Edo State. Also supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.

Contribution to Nigeria’s Diversification Efforts

Our chairman and founder, Osayi Izedonmwen, describes the expansion as a “strategic shift” that positions IzeCarb to become Nigeria’s largest local manufacturer of premium calcium carbonate products. By reducing import dependency and conserving foreign exchange, we are directly contributing to Nigeria’s industrial self-reliance.

Serving the West African Sub-region

With its eyes set on becoming the largest calcium carbonate producer in sub-Saharan Africa in 2027, IzeCarb is also exploring export opportunities to neighbouring countries.
